Valencia, 55kms from Finca Casablanca, is Spain’s third largest city with a population of almost 750,000, and the capital of the three provinces (Castellón, Valencia and Alicante) which make up the Comunidád Valenciana. It is the venue for the Americas Cup in 2007, by which time it will be linked to Madrid by AVE high-speed train, complementing the existing international airport and normal mainline services. At present, Madrid and Barcelona are each approximately three and a half hours by train or 45 minutes by plane.
The busy cosmopolitan city spreads out from the nucleus of the old town with its magnificent cathedral, spanning the former bed of the River Turia (diverted to eliminate flooding) which has now become a series of parks and gardens, culminating in the site of the City of Arts and Sciences which includes the Oceanographic, the largest aquarium in Europe.
From restaurants and bars to churches, museums and galleries, outstanding covered produce markets to beaches, the seaport and nearby Albufera lagoon, golf courses and Europe’s leading football team, Valencia offers more than enough to keep visitors of all ages occupied.
